Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I have my air ducts cleaned?

Dirt, dust, pet dander, remodeling dust, and countless other odds and ends can accumulate in your ductwork over time. Perhaps you notice that you are dusting more often, your children's allergies seem to be acting up, or you can never seem to fully get rid of that pesky, white drywall dust.

Here are some of the benefits of having your ducts cleaned:

  • Improve the indoor air quality for you & your children - Children have smaller lungs, breathe more rapidly and are much more sensitive to poor indoor air quality.
  • Relieve indoor allergies - Indoor air can be more allergen-borne than outdoor air. Throughout the day, dust, pollen and other allergens attach to your clothes, and you inadvertently bring them into your home at the end of the day. Pet dander and dust mites also build up within your home over time. These allergens continually recirculate throughout your system and can eventually get stuck in your ductwork. Any vibration in your home or simply the cycling of your HVAC system can dislodge a bit of allergen-rich dust, causing indoor sneezing and coughing.
  • Remove dust mite waste, pet dander, and other allergens - Dust mites live on shedded skin and pet dander throughout your home. You remove many of them by vacuuming your carpet and floors and cleaning your bedding. Most people don't realize that this dust mite food is also easily trapped in your ductwork. If you clean the rest of your house, why not clean this unseen dust mite breeding ground as well?

  • Eliminate remodeling & drywall dust and other building materials - Many of our customers hire us after finishing a remodeling job. They are tired of trying to get rid of the drywall dust that has spread itself throughout their house. We find the sources of this dust and remove it, thereby fixing their dust problem. Also, some contractors will sweep sawdust, nails and other debris into the ductwork when they are building a house. These materials have no place in your ductwork. If you have recently remodeled or had a new home built, give us a call before the endless dust drives you mad.
  • Just moved in? Remove pet hair, dust, smoke residue, and odds-and-ends left behind by the previous owners. - Did the previous owners ever have their ducts cleaned? It's unlikely. Give us a call and we will inspect your ductwork and make sure the unseen parts of your new home are as clean as the rest of your new home.
  • Dust your home less often - Many of our customers have contacted us to let us know that they are having to dust their home less often. Usually, rather than dust several times a week, they now only dust once a week. Let SuperDuct free your mind of one less hassle.

How do you clean the air ducts?

We begin by photo or video-inspecting your ductwork for damage, soil and mold. We then remove each vent and return cover and vacuum them clean. Next, we vacuum out the inside of each vent and return to remove large debris. We next scrub them with a brush attachment, and vacuum them again to remove any dust or debris that was loosened by the brush. We repeat this process for each vent and return, one at a time. We finish by cleaning each main line by using a high-pressure air whip to agitate any dirt in the line and then suck it into our high-power super vacuum system. Our system is built exclusively for air duct cleaning, not the carpet-cleaning machines that many other companies use.

Where does the dirt go?

All dirt and debris is vacuumed directly into our high-power super vacuum system, which is kept outside the home. Our system is custom-made for air duct cleaning, rather than the carpet cleaning vacuums that many companies use.

How will I know that the ducts were actually cleaned?

The technician will conduct a thorough inspection before and after the cleaning is performed by using remote photography, videograpy and/or flashlight and mirror. We invite our clients to inspect the quality of the cleaning during the process.

How often should the air ducts be cleaned?

The frequency of cleaning depends entirely upon you, your environment, and your needs. If anyone in your home suffers from indoor allergies or allergic asthma, having your air ducts cleaned may help. If there are a large number of people frequently in your home, anyone in your household smokes or if you have pets, you may need your ducts cleaned more frequently than others in your area. Also, if you use poor furnace filters, your system will need cleaning more often than if you use high-quality filters with a microparticle performance rating (MPR) of at least 700 (such as those made by 3M Filtrete) or minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) of at least 8. Many industry leaders suggest having your ducts inspected and cleaned every 2-3 years in order to remove potential allergens and debris that can accumulate in your system and inspect for moisture or mold, as well as improve the efficiency of your system and decrease the frequency of costly repairs.

How much does it cost?

Double Furnaces

This photo is of 2 of the 4 furnaces in a residence we recently cleaned. This home also had 9 main lines and 56 vents and returns. The entire job, including estimate, photo inspection and cleaning took 7 hours.

The cost of cleaning your ductwork depends entirely upon the particulars of your system. Every home is different, and the level of soil in each system is different as well. Several key factors that we use, and other air duct cleaning companies should consider, when determining the cost to clean your ducts are:

  • How many vents and returns are in your home?
  • Are there main lines, and if so, how many?
  • How accessible is each main line?
  • How many furnaces are in the home?
  • How soiled are the vents, returns and main lines?
  • Does the furnace, blower, plenum or cold box require cleaning?

The price of a full-system cleaning can very significantly based upon the factors above. We are committed to remaining competitively priced, but we cannot quote a fair price until our technicians can fully inspect your ductwork.

Be wary of companies that say they will clean your entire system for $99. Duct cleaning requires time, specialized equipment, knowledge and attention to detail, and should be left to the hands of reputable companies who take pride in their work.

We demand the best of ourselves. Demand the best for you and your family.

We regularly offer specials to new and repeat customers. Please give us a call at 614-583-0936 to set up an appointment or have any questions answered.

Will there be anything that I need after the duct cleaning is done?

We are committed to leaving your home in better condition that we found it. Our technicians always take their shoes off at the door or wear clean booties, and clean up after themselves. The only indication that we have been in your home will be your cleaner air.

We do recommend that you have a new, high-quality pleated furnace air filter ready for when we finish. We will happily install it for you at no cost. The #1 way you can keep your system clean and operating efficiently is to use a high-quality pleated air filter and replace it at least every 3 months, or as recommended by the filter manufacturer

Warm air supply vent - Before & After.
The homeowners suffer from severe dust allergies and have even undergone sinus surgery to help. Notice the heavy layer of dust in this supply vent! Any vibration throughout the house, such as cycling of the furnace or closing doors caused a bit of allergen-laden dust to blow throughout their house.
Another heavily soiled supply vent - Before & After.
This is a nightmare for allergy sufferers, since this dirt is easily dislodged by any vibration and then blows directly into the house.
